President's Message 7/1/10
I spoke June 1 to the Beginners’ Clinic on staying motivated and dedicated to the sport of running and walking. After thinking about this subject for some time and talking to some close friends, I came to realize that many people that I have known for years were losing their motivation to run or walk. They were, in fact, just going through the motions and slowly losing the fire and excitement that at one time motivated them to have fun and feel good about what they could accomplish.
Most of the runners and walkers that you see out in all kinds of weather with friends and attending club events and races have a source of motivation - whether it is keeping weight off, trying to stay healthy and in shape, trying to get better at what they do, or personal reasons of some kind. These are the people that are truly dedicated to the sport. If you find yourself losing that excitement and fire that used to motivate you, a re-evaluation of your training habits should be in store. What a tremendous running and walking family we have. Your outpouring of love and comfort will forever be remembered. The last words Rick said to me were, "I will see you at the finish line". At the time, I didn't realize what finish line he meant, but I know now he will be waiting for me when I cross my final finish line.
